I enjoy just sitting back and listening to music for long hours. However I was getting a little tired of Spotify’s UI. It’s so cluttered and doesn’t give a very ‘calming’ feel.
I’ve always liked the idea of owning a vinyl record player. Someday I might buy it. But for the time being I made a macOS app with Opus 5.5 that gives a feeling of listening on a vinyl record.
I created a developer app on Spotify and am using that to connect my Spotify account. It’s able to fetch all the albums and playlists that I have saved - which I display like record albums on a shelf or a crate.

When I pick one album and hit play, it takes out the record of the sleeve and starts playing on a record player. And it starts playing the music via Spotify’s APIs. I have some record player controls too like moving the needle around on the spinning record.

It’s pretty cool. I wish I could just share this app with everybody, but Spotify limits the number of people who can connect to an individual developer’s Spotify app. So I can only share with a few folks (let me know if anyone’s interested in trying it out).
